I was educated as a scientist, trained as an artist, studied holistic health, metaphysical philosophies and spiritual practices, managed to earn a little money writing books on crystal healing, colour therapy and related subjects and teaching others about these areas.
Although I am passionate about teaching practical, simple workable methods for improving well-being (in a vain attempt to counter the more popular, spurious, dumbed down, wishful-thinking “fluffy” stuff….don’t get me started), I see this blog more as a personal and reflective journal: somewhere to deposit the flocks of thoughts that sometimes inhabit my awareness.
Clouds of thought
Veiling and unveiling
Defining and dissolving.
Maybe looking at things from new, or old, perspectives. Rambling, ( and oh how I can ramble!), seeing this, tasting that……
An attempt to ameliorate the linearity of thought and language
To incite rebellions of poetry…..
When I was fortunate to have a large studio in Birmingham during the 1980’s (god, so long ago now!), I would fill the space with bits of different projects. Leaving things to mature, to associate significantly and accidentally, with others until they were noticed and turned into finished pieces of sculpture or print. That’s how I justified the mess anyway!
Now I do much the same in composing (or collecting, discovering, revealing, ?), music. Layering sounds, twisting knobs I have no idea about, recording drifts of sound and moving quickly on to new settings. Piling up files that will be returned to at some later date, reassessed, modified or put away again.
I hope to be able to work out how to include audio files on this blog. Seems easy enough until it is attempted…
I haven’ t had space for a studio for a long time now, but I work in a similar way as I used to, playing with images on the computer screen. These works too, I hope to include here.
Even the way you describe yourself is magical! you have the way with words my dearest Simon! its fantastic!! more poetry please! although i never really understood poetry much, i really am beginning to appreciate it!
As Alwasy Simon an inspiration
Truly beautiful words, that make us just stop and reflect..
SHL: RT has nominated you as a “Very Inspired Blogger.” Details are included in the latest post on the Rag Tree. Congrats–your work is very fine! RT
Sir, you are a veritable bard!
Thank’ee Cap’n. (and may I say you’re haiku are the bee’s knees)
Your paragraph regarding musical composition could have been written for me.
I’ve been using Sony AcidPro 7. What about you?
Thanks Richard. I use a simple platform, Traktion, that doesn’t get in the way of the flow (Cubase pisses me off by having vital, near invisible, tabs and a laborious audio recording). I use a variety of software instruments, mainly Native Instruments, and recently the wondrous Iris and a Garritan orchestral suite, though tweaks and blarts come from a variety of other bits and bobs. There are great stuff on iPad also, like Animoog and Thumbjam…too much in fact. I’ m repairing my fingers for more competant guitar at the moment…
Simon I’m working on a collaboration that I would love to have your critical input on. If I could email it to you and you’d be willing to apply your shrewd and capable eye/ear I would greatly appreciate it. I feel a bit lost in my own threads to know if it’s ridiculous or worthy.
Please do. I will be happy to take a look, though it will probably be next week before I can access emails properly, especially if content is large!
Dear Simon. I must consider you “friend.” I will continue to track your processes here – they are so rich and deep and varied. THANK YOU for providing them, making them, being. If composition is unavoidable, I will post to Spoondeep or Hurly-Burly, but am turning my energies elsewhere for a time. I appreciate you, your thoughts, comments, encouragement and work, VERY much. It is a blessing to engage it.
Thank you Nathan. I will surely miss your posts and the ideas they stir up. I hope we will be able to keep in touch as much as possible.
I’d like that. Thanks Simon.
SoundCloud is easily embedded in WordPress Simon but it may not be for the audiophile.
Yep, I’ve heard of ear grimaces from the sonically OCD as regards the quality! That’ s not so much my concern. Somehow I haven’t fathomed the ins and outs. Luckily though, Bandcamp have a really easy to load player that works well on WordPress…
Look forward to hearing something soon!
Simon – I’m visiting London – is that accessible to you? I’m having a hard time remembering where it is you are
We are just outside Exeter in Devon, in the South -West. When are you around?
I’m there for a class Feb 15-22. Not sure of the itinerary yet – visiting/observing about 15 libraries in a week
You mention here that you teach methods towards well being. I couldn’t find anything on this blog. Could you provide a link?
